A camping we will go. . .

Somehow, being part of the Cub Scouts this year has turned us into a camping family. A few weekends ago we joined several other scouting families for a camping weekend at King's Mountain State Park. We're becoming quite efficient in our setting up and taking down, though we did look a little like the Beverly Hillbillies with our loaded down truck that Dad so graciously lent to us.

The area is absolutely gorgeous and we spent most of Saturday morning hiking and exploring. The kids were great sports. We saw lots of evidence of wildlife and some beautiful trees and flowers and waterfalls and creeks.

One piece of wildlife that we came especially close to is the black snake in the tree above. Chris thought it would be fun to try to knock it out of the tree. When it finally fell, it came a couple of feet from Sarah's head. Ahh. . . good times.

Part of the weekend included the ever popular Rain gutter Regatta. Those boys really put their enormous lung capacity to work. *giggles*

We also had a falconry demonstration by a couple of hunters. It was really neat to see the birds up close and learn about their habits. Below is a red-tailed hawk that is very common to our area. We actually have at least one living in the woods across the street from our house.
John really enjoyed the presentation. We had to make him give back the glove.

And finally, here's a couple of misc. pictures of God's beautiful creation. Enjoy.
