God's faithfulness through all the generations

That was the title of the Women's Ministries Christmas Dinner that I attended this evening. I hadn't planned to go. Truth is that I forgot all about it until after the deadline to purchase tickets. But this morning, my "boss" handed me an extra ticket and invited me to come. So, I went. Anything to get out of the house and not have to cook. (Only sort of tongue in cheek. I knew God had something planned.)
During the course of the evening, the question of "How has God shown His faithfulness to you today" was posed and it got me thinking. At first I thought, "well, Olivia had an extra ticket so God provided that for me." But the more I thought about it, the more I realized, in my minuscule way, how God has worked this whole week.
See, this has been a rough 7 days. The kids went out of town with their grandparents over the Thanksgiving holiday. The nice quiet break (man did I miss those kids!) was shattered on Saturday with a phone call from Chris's parents letting us know that Sarah had been stung by a bee and was having a reaction bad enough that they had to call the EMT's. That lead to several stressful and prayerful hours. Of course, she was fine in the end. The kids got back home on Monday only to start a 2 day course of stomach bug running through the house. By Wednesday afternoon, I was done. Even though I hadn't gotten sick, I wasn't feeling all that great, and all three kids had been sick in one way or another. And I had responsibilities at church Wednesday night that I couldn't miss. So, in desperation, I zipped a text out to my two bff's asking for prayer to get me through the day without going crazy. Immediately, one replied that she was praying and the other typed "Dearest Lord, please let your calming presence be felt by this beautiful friend today. Lay your hands on her and spread your love and healing through her body and soul. Let her know how much she is loved."
So off I went to finish out my day at home and head off to church to "do my duty." We were having the Awana store at club and I knew it would be hectic. (Store night is when the kids can spend the "money" they've earned throughout the month) Before the night was over, two of my Awana kids had come up to me and presented me with gifts they had bought for me with their money at the store. You have to understand that they work hard to earn that money. They have to memorize scripture and answer questions. It takes a while for it to add up. Yet they thought that I was worth it.

So, I went home and commented on Facebook that I had had a great night and was prayerful about what today might bring. One of those same bff's replied with "Praying tomorrow brings mercy, grace & peace knowing that you are loved!" Today was wonderful. Everyone was back to health (mostly). John made a point to tell his teacher that my prayers had been answered because I hadn't gotten sick. Olivia handed me a ticket to the women's dinner. Both of the girls had wonderful days at school. John's principal sent a request which reminded me why I am so grateful to have that group of people in my life, which reminded me of the wonderful people who directed me to them in the first place. And then it was topped off with the yummy supper with sweet friends and lots of testimonies of God's faithfulness to some of those friends. And did I mention an amazingly powerful version of "Breath of Heaven" sung by one of the ladies in our church.

Forgive me if this was a little disjointed. It's almost 2 in the morning and I'm still too jazzed up to sleep. No grammar comments from my teacher friends!

In closing, I want to share with you a familiar verse that was shared tonight. I pray that each of you will see God's faithfulness in your lives and in your families. God bless and sweet dreams.
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
Lamentations 3:21:25
