Weekly wrap up - the randomness edition

I'm feeling extremely discombobulated this week (I just LOVE that word!)  So I thought I'd do my wrap up totally different.

Things I/we're loving this week:
  • Nicer weather - It's been in the 60's and 70's.  Though why my daughters think that means they should be outside playing in the water hose is beyond me.
  • Our little CC group - We made the decision last year to jump ship from a much larger and more established CC community to a brand new and much smaller community.  It was a stressful decision making process over the summer.  But my 10 year old said it best today: "Everyone in my class is my friend.  Last year there were lots of people in my class, but none of them were my friends."  That is the difference.  And honestly, I feel pretty much the same way about the adults.
  • My Bible study group - The funniest, most supportive group of women I've ever known.  I am amazed that God took this introvert and placed me in the midst of these women.  If you had asked me 10 years ago if I would have been comfortable in a group like this, I would have laughed out loud.  Thank God for not allowing us to stay where we are.

Things I / we're not loving this week:
  • Headaches - my headaches are back with a vengeance.  I go for a second epidural shot in my neck next week.  In the meantime, I'm dealing with obnoxious neck and head pain.
  • Technology - my kids have spent way too much time with their faces stuck in their Kindle Fires or laptops this week!  We are pulling the plug on this.  Be prepared for the scream heard 'round the world.
  • Escaping dog - our dog, Bernie has made it his mission in life to escape from the backyard fence by any means possible.  So far these include pushing, climbing, digging, and teleporting.  (My kids say no to the last one, but I'm not convinced.)  It's become quite the battle of wills between the kids and the dog.

Things I/we're did this week:
  • It's Girl Scout cookie time, which means it's cookie booth time.  Which is where you'll find us pretty much every weekend from now until the middle of March.
  • Today ended up being a mom and Sarah afternoon when I had to take Sarah for a follow-up at the allergist.  She talked me into lunch at Ci-Ci's pizza (yuck!).  It was nice to chat with just her.  Wow, is she growing up.  She was sharing things with me about conversations with her friends that I didn't realize she was having.  Nothing inappropriate, but I didn't realize we had gotten to that stage of life yet.  Sigh.  This needs to happen way more often...

What am I/ we reading?
  • As a family we're reading Prince Caspian.  The two older kids keep commenting on what is different or the same about the book verses the movie.  The youngest gets mad and points out how she hasn't seen the movie so they need to be quiet!  Ah, fun times.
  • I'm still in my Gideon study by Priscilla Shirer.  I'm also still working through The Core by Leigh Bortins.  I've zipped through a few light reading titles recently, so feel free to check out my Goodreads page.

Oh, and one last picture.  A "selfie" we took at lunch today.  After we took it, my priss said, "Mom, put this one on your blog."  Love that sweet girl.

How was your week?

  1. We are in our 4th yr of homeschooling but first yr of CC! I don't know how big your group was, but my understanding is there isn't supposed to be more than 8 kids in a class? or close to that. I'm actually tutoring a class of 9 and we have a class with 10 and a waiting list to enroll, maybe? Someone may need to start another group eventually. - OH, and I'm your first G+ follower ;)

    1. Our community last year had classes of 8 or so, but there were more than one of each level. Now our little community has barely 14 kids altogether. I have only 4 in the class I tutor. I love it! - And thanks for following me!! I look forward to getting to know you better!

  3. So glad I'm not the only one with the escapee dog! Ours has been somehow getting out of her gate I have set up. (She is injured and I'm trying to keep her contained.) I swear she grows wings when I'm not looking!

    Stopping in from BYB.

  4. I am so jealous that you have a great Bible study to attend, we are stationed n CT at the moment (Coast Guard) but will be in VA soon, I hope to find a good one there! I looked up the Gideon study you wrote about, and I am very intrigued, it looks like it will go well with a book I just read, The Me I Want to Be by John Ortberg. Thanks for sharing, and when my 18 month old daughter is a few years older I hope our days can be as blessed as this one was for you (sans the headaches and escaping dogs.... ;) )

  5. Looks like your week was good minus the headaches. Sorry about the headaches. I'm wondering if they could be nutrition related? I guess some people are more prone, but they don't understand why.

Girl scout cookies are interesting. This is something I'm not looking forward to - having a girl scout. I don't like the cookies, I buy them but hate it - and am just girl scout hum bug. I'm sure it's going to come back and bite me in the but. Karma. I won't be able to sell one box - just wait.

Thanks so much for participating in the blog challenge!

    1. Hey Lisa! My headaches are the result of some nerve and muscle bulges on my neck caused by what appears to be 3 misaligned discs. After several years of trying everything including diet changes, I started going to a pain specialist who did an MRI of my neck and discovered the bulges. Fun stuff.
Girl Scout cookies - ah... I love to eat them, hate to sell them. Oh well. Scouting has been part of my life since I was in the 2nd grade and I don't foresee an end any time soon. Oh well. ;-)
Off to another booth sale. Lol

  6. Dogs that escape routinely are beyond frustrating! We had to dogsit this rotweiler one time and it escaped daily, and was impossible to catch!

That picture of your daughter is adorable! My daughter is always telling me to take pictures for Instagram, lol.

    1. Cole, thankfully this dog just likes to escape an doesn't like to wander. He just goes from the back yard to the front. Our last escape artist used to wander everywhere!

  7. Visiting from Collage Friday Link UP. Looks like a pretty good week, even with a headache. I LOL'd when you said your daughter asked to put a picture up on your blog. The life of a blogger for sure! My kids do the same thing. Hope your head starts feeling better. Give acupuncture a try.

  8. I can relate to an escapee dog. We do not have a fence. We have an invisible fence, but we don't even bother any more because he just doesn't care -he shakes his head and runs through it. We keep him in all day, and just take him for walks...but -he knows every trick in the book to escape the house... I swear he can turn doorknobs. I am convinced.

  9. Love the wrap of your week, they tend to go by so fast without reflection on the highs and lows. Stopping by from the BYB challenge.

  12. I'm so sorry you're dealing with severe headaches. I'm struggling with headaches myself and find that when I'm taking effervescent magnesium on a regular basis I feel much better and my headaches aren't as intense.

  13. Sonya, thanks for stopping by. I hadn't heard of the effervescent magnesium. I'll have to look into that. Praying for relief from your headaches as well.

  18. We have two little escape artists at our house, too. We don't even bother letting them outside unless they are tethered to something because WOOSH, they're outta here! Good thing they are very small dogs and we have a big house so they can run around inside a lot.

    1. Tammigirl, doesn't that drive you crazy!! We used to have a pair of dogs that would go "visiting" every spring. There was never any telling where we would find them. At least this one doesn't leave the property. . . . yet. Ha!
      Thanks for stopping by!
